Alex Sedgwick

Alex

Alex started karting at the age of 8, he competed in his first kart race in August of 2007 at his local track, Shenington. In the six mandatory races under novice status, he improved every race culminating in a trophy in his last race of the year.

For the 2008 season, Alex focused on two of his local club championships, at Shenington and Rissington. At the end of the year, Alex was crowned Rissington Kart Club WTP Cadet Champion.

At the beginning of 2009, the decision was made to enter the Little Green Man WTP Cadet British Championship. Alex finished the year in 22nd place. Although this was a disappointing result, Alex learned a lot which would serve him well for the following years. Alex competed in the Little Green Man Championship again in 2010, this time, finishing 9th. He also got the opportunity to race with members of the Italian BRM Factory Race Team at the Kartmasters Grand Prix.

Carrying on the momentum from 2010, Alex joined JM Racing in the winter months for a championship challenge in the Little Green Man Championship. He won the WTP Cadet Winter Series with three wins out of three. He then took the Little Green Man title with one round to go after six wins out of seven races. This meant he was 2011 British Champion as well as breaking a number of championship records including:

  • Most wins in a season
  • First-person to win all three heats, qualify on pole position, set the fastest lap and win the final in the same race meeting
  • Highest points total ever

After the success of 2011, Alex moved on to MiniMax with Velocity Motorsport, he entered the Rotax Super One Series. He finished 18th.

Alex again competed in the Rotax Super One Series, he finished 14th. At the end of the year, he entered the Ginetta Junior Scholarship, which he won despite never having driven a Ginetta before.

As a result of winning the Ginetta Junior Scholarship, Alex has had a fully funded season in the Ginetta Junior Championship where he raced with JHR Developments. Despite having a fraction of the testing and therefore much less experience than his competitors, he finished the championship in 10th place overall, and as the 4th place driver in the Rookie Cup.

After his GCSE exams were complete, Alex competed in the Magny-Cours round of the FFSA French F4 Championship bringing home a top 5 finish in his single-seater debut. He also competed in the final two rounds of the Renault UK Clio Cup, where he qualified 5th on his debut at Silverstone and ended the season with a top 5 result at Brands Hatch.

In 2016, Alex made his international debut at the Dubai 24 Hours. In at the deep end, he went up against factory drivers and WEC champions, finishing 7th in class.

Alex again competed in the Dubai 24 Hours to start the year, with a brand new team to endurance racing he ended up finishing in second place. He then went on to qualify on pole and win the Imola 12 Hours over summer.

2018 saw a new challenge for Alex, as well as his return to full-season competition with his debut in the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series. After an up and down year, Alex finished the season in 12th overall in the Elite 1 ‘Pro’ Category, with four podiums, two top-five and five top-ten finishes.

For 2019 Alex returned to the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series and started the season on the podium in Valencia. Unfortunately, due to reliability issues with the car Alex decided to take a break in the midseason to regroup, before returning for the final round where once again he ended up on the podium by winning the Junior Trophy.

Alex Sedgwick to return back to the United Kingdom after successful ARCA test in Daytona.

Alex Sedgwick returned to the United States this past week after an exciting change of fate for the British driver, having a sponsor come forward just in time to support his testing efforts at the Daytona International Speedway. Greg Thomas of NBA 2K 21 notified Alex’s manager Ryan Johnston just in the nick of time that they would support Alex’s testing efforts in Daytona this past Friday and Saturday. Alex went into “GO” mode and booked his flight, and since there was a complete lockdown in the U.K., Alex had to complete his physical and drug testing on Thursday, the day before the test began. “Everything came together rather quickly, and miraculously, it all worked!” said Alex.

Alex is flying back to London from Miami this evening, hoping to come back as soon as he can, to compete in as many races in the ARCA Menards Series and NASCAR Xfinity Series races in 2021.
